Attendance 2026

As we continue to focus on the importance of student attendance at school, we want to reiterate the Ministry of Education’s guidance on attendance. Attendance is a key measure of student engagement and wellbeing. Research has consistently found that it is strongly linked with student attainment, emphasising that every day matters.

The Ministry's benchmark for regular attendance is attending more than 90% of school time.

Regular attendance at school is important to student success and there is a clear connection between going to school regularly and doing well in the classroom. Making sure students attend and engage in learning is a shared responsibility. As a parent, you are responsible for making sure your child attends school every day.

ATTENDANCE MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE - STEPPED ATTENDANCE RESPONSE

We recognise the importance of regular attendance to help our students achieve their educational potential.

Our attendance procedures ensure students are accounted for during schools’ hours.  This allows school staff to identify and response to student attendance concerns.

We have a stepped attendance response to ensure we are able to identify students and offer appropriate interventions at the thresholds to support students to return to regular attendance.

We have annual targets for student attendance and work with students, parents and caregivers, staff an external agency, where necessary to improve our levels of student attendance.
