Marian College PTA Quiz Night

The Marian PTA held a successful, fun-filled quiz night recently at the Cranford Ale House to raise funds towards the purchase of a stage owned by Marian College rather than hiring one for events.  We would like to thank the generous support of Marian's students, families, staff and raffle prize donors, who all contributed to the evening's success.  With more than 120 people mixing into 20 teams, and over 30 great raffle prizes, we were fortunate to raise $3,283 towards the purchase of a new stage for Marian College.

Congratulations to all the placegetters, raffle prize winners, and best team names, and a huge thank you to our PTA subcommittee for all the hard work and organisation behind the scenes.

Kirsty Mahoney, PTA Chair

Marian College Board Elections

Nominations for our school Board election have now closed, with a large number of nominations received.  This is very positive, as it means that the community is engaged in our school.  Our election will proceed to the voting phase, and voting information will be sent from Election Pilot to all individuals on our electoral roll on Wednesday, 13 August.

Your voice matters.  Your perspective counts.  Be part of the change.

Enrolments for Year 9 2026 are now closed

Letters of Offer have been emailed to parents.  The deadline for acceptance of place is Monday 11 August.  If you have any questions, please email us at exec@mariancollege.school.nz.

Komodo Wellbeing Steps to Sleep Success Guide 2025

Wellbeing data from our fortnightly Komodo surveys continue to show a positive trend across the school in several areas of wellbeing, particularly spiritual and social wellbeing.  The areas that continue to be of higher concern for students are the amount of sleep they are getting and their digital wellbeing.  Click here for information from Komodo that would be good to discuss at home with your daughters - 'The Power of Sleep: Unlocking Wellbeing with Sleep Hygiene'.  Later in Term 3, in Wā Whānau, we will continue to discuss ways to improve sleep habits.

Year 10 Literacy and Numeracy Assessments

Year 10 students will sit their literacy and numeracy assessments in the week beginning Monday 1 September. This is the first opportunity for students to sit these assessments, improve their skills, and gain credits towards their qualifications. Students who do not pass the tests will have further opportunities to gain the literacy and numeracy requirements of NCEA next year in 2026. There are no further opportunities to sit the assessments this year, and derived grades are not available. This means that attendance is very important.

Click here to view the requirements for NCEA.

Click here to view the Timetable.

Note that students will sit their assessments in the same classroom each morning for the first two periods of the day. It is vitally important that students are on time, and bring all the resources listed below. Students also need to go to the toilet before the assessment begins.

Students must bring:

  • Charged laptop, and the charger

  • Headphones

  • Scientific calculator, NOT a graphics calculator (for the numeracy assessment)

  • A pen and a ruler (for the numeracy assessment, paper will be supplied)

  • NZQA login and password (students will be given these at a student briefing in week 4)

  • A book to read when finished

ERO Survey

The Education Review Office is carrying out some research to learn more about how ‘Phones away for the day’ is going.  They want to hear your thoughts on what’s working, what’s not working, and what could make it better. Please take 5–10 minutes to share your thoughts in this quick survey — your input really makes a difference.

Absences

If your daughter is going to be away on planned leave during term time, please let us know in writing at least two weeks prior by emailing  attendance@mariancollege.school.nz.  Please include your daughter's name, the dates of the absence, and the reason for the absence.

Once your leave request has been assessed, we will confirm to you in writing whether your leave request will be recorded as 'justified' or 'unjustified'.

Holidays during term time are discouraged and are considered an unjustified absence.  For unjustified absences, there is no requirement for teachers to provide work to the student in their absence or to provide extra tuition to the student on their return, and teachers are not able to give extensions or alternative deadlines for assessments.
