Move It Challenge

This weekend, Marian College and St Bede's College are joining forces to take part in the Move It Challenge to raise funds for Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand, an organisation that supports communities facing poverty, injustice, and the impacts of climate change both here in Aotearoa and around the world.

We're moving with purpose to show solidarity with those who face daily struggles just to meet their basic needs.

It is our goal to raise $2,500 for Caritas.  Every $1 donated will be matched by the New Zealand Aid Programme to become $4.

Every donation, big or small, helps Caritas continue their vital work.  If you would like to support us, head to www.mariancollege.school.nz/moveitchallenge.

Service at St Joseph’s Rangiora

Recently, nine Year 10 girls and myself went to St Joseph's Rangiora to help lead the Year 7 retreat.  At the beginning of the day we broke off into small groups, and played ice breaker games to get to know our group.  After about 20 minutes we were given a scenario for our group to perform.  The theme of their retreat was leadership, so all the activities were based around that.  After morning tea a speaker came in from Young Vinnies.  They talked about how to be a good servant leader.  After the guest speaker had finished we split off into our small groups, and we helped the Year 7s debrief what had been said.  This gave us an awesome opportunity to use our leadership skills that we learned at the peer-to- peer ministry training.  After the debrief we had Mass.  The final activity of the day was Priest of the Parish.  The Year 7s gathered together in a group, and myself along with two others helped run this game.  This was a great way to end the retreat.  I am thankful to have had this opportunity to learn new leadership skills, and gain confidence for leading other activities like this later at Marian.  We had an amazing time getting to know the year sevens, and the people at St Joseph's Rangiora. It was an amazing day for everyone.

A Night at the Conclave

A Night at the Conclave with Cardinal John Dew was a beautiful opportunity.  The Litany of Saints opened the evening with a keen audience of varying ages.  The process inside the Conclave was described with such admiration showing how the cardinals came to decide on the next Pope.  As Cardinal John Dew spoke about the various traditions followed within the Conclave, I truly felt the Church’s traditions and documents that were discussed in Religious Education class come alive.  It left us feeling even more confident about the way the Church was evolving and tackling modern day issues.  We were privileged to learn so much from the significance of the Cardinal ring, to the Cardinal’s special meatloaf, to the organisation of the Conclave.  We are so grateful for the opportunity and for having met Cardinal John Dew.
