Messa Di Voce Shines at The Big Sing

Our school choir, Messa Di Voce, recently took to the stage at The Big Sing, New Zealand’s largest and most prestigious choral festival for secondary school students.

Held annually in 10 regional centres across the country, The Big Sing is a celebration of choral excellence, bringing together over 8,000 young singers from more than 250 choirs nationwide.  It offers an inspiring opportunity for students to share their passion for music and experience the joy of performing in a professional setting.

Under the expert direction of Ms Zara Doig, our talented choir of students from Years 9 to 13 delivered a moving and polished performance in the Christchurch Town Hall.  Their repertoire reflected a thoughtful balance of musical styles and languages, showcasing both emotional depth and technical skill.

The programme opened with “O Love” by Elaine Hagenberg, a contemporary piece rich in harmonic beauty and lyrical expression.  This was followed by the vibrant and rhythmically energetic “Jubilate Deo” by Peter Anglea.  The performance concluded with “Hine e Hine”, a well-loved Māori lullaby arranged by David Hamilton.

It was a proud moment for both the students and staff, and a testament to the commitment and leadership of Ms Doig, whose passion for choral music continues to inspire excellence.

Congratulations to all members of Messa Di Voce for representing our school with such grace and artistry.  We look forward to seeing where their musical journey takes them next!
