Pentecost
This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. It follows the Ascension, where Jesus ascended into heaven and was no longer physically present with his disciples.
Before he left the disciples, Jesus told them, “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age,” Matthew 28:20.Through the Holy Spirit’s descent as a mighty wind, sparking tongues of fire above them, the disciples recognised Jesus was indeed with them, baptising them with the Holy Spirit and strengthening their mission.
We are praying for...
Members of the Marian College community who have suffered a bereavement or ill-health recently - please be assured that you are remembered in our prayers.
Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen
SPECIAL CHARACTER NOTICES
Picture Donated to Marian College by Mercy Sisters New Zealand
Recently members of the the Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Sisters of Mercy New Zealand, some of whom were past staff at our foundation school St Mary's College, came to bless our new artwork - a print of the Rose Historic Chapel’s stained glass window - depicting St Mary BV and the Christ-Child alongside Venerable Catherine McAuley and a child. The piece was generously donated by the Sisters and now takes pride of place in our Catherine McAuley Library.
Catholic Combined Schools Mass
The Catholic Combined Schools Mass was held at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral recently, led by Father Alister and Monsignor Rick. Our students represented Marian along with our sister and brother secondary schools, Villa Maria, St Bede's, Catholic Cathedral and St Thomas' of Canterbury Colleges.
Catholic Yarn
Recently, we participated in the “Catholic Yarn” where we were able to present our student voice about Religious Education. We shared ideas and collaborated with another Catholic school from the North Island. Their different teaching methods really interested us. We talked about the Special Character and culture of Marian and how it impacts our learning every day. This was a great opportunity to provide perspective of what happens within the Religious Education classrooms to Colin MacLeod, the Director of The National Centre for Religious Studies.
When talking to Mr MacLeod it was clear to us that student-based feedback was valued within Religious Studies. We are so grateful for this opportunity and we look forward to seeing how our feedback will enhance a very enjoyable and significant subject.
