English Language Requirements
Students applying for Marian College must have a good intermediate level of English Language. All students sit a written entry examination to show that the level of English use is sufficient to cope with classroom work.
Will I be integrated into class or in a separate ESOL programme?
International students entering Marian College are placed in normal school classes and are expected to take part in the academic programme of the year level. There is ESOL support available for them both in and out of class. They are also part of the normal House system and form class system. Although International students do not have to be Roman Catholic, all students must take part in the Religious Education Programme, which includes NCEA standard qualifications and a retreat. The Year 9 and 10 Physical Education programmes include outdoor education activities. International students are prepared for the New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) examinations.
Do I need to organise my own homestay?
Most students enrolling at Marian College have already arranged their own homestay or this can be arranged through the school. The school checks regularly on the suitability of the accommodation. If the student needs to move, Marian College would help her find another homestay.
