GIFTED & TALENTED

Marian College seeks feedback from parents and caregivers, the previous school and from our own testing and professional observation to identify students who are gifted and talented across any one or more of a diverse array of areas. This information is retained on the school's database for all teachers to access.

Staff in each learning area document the strategies they will use to support and extend students with a particular academic gift or talent in their area. Gifted and talented students at Marian College are generally enriched within their normal classes rather than extended beyond their age group.

Staff responsible for other areas such as spiritual, cultural or sporting areas for instance will likewise put in place opportunities to foster the gifted or talented student's development in their related area.

The gifted and talented staff coordinator arranges professional development for staff on working with gifted and talented students, provides additional opportunties for these students outside the learning area or co-curricular area support mentioned above, meets with the gifted and talented students to monitor their progress and reports annually to the board of trustees on the overall gifted and talented programme at Marian College.
