GENERAL INFORMATION

Absences

If a girl is to be absent from school for any reason or has been ill a note to the house group teacher explaining the absence is required immediately on her return to school. If a girl is to be absent for some time an initial phone call is in order. Parents and caregivers are reminded that attendance is now monitored nationally.

Absence in term time for family holidays is not acceptable and seriously affects your daughters’ learning progress. The school texts families each day about unexplained absences. Whenever possible, medical, dental and other appointments are to be made outside of school hours.

Sickness

If a girl becomes sick at school, she is sent by her teacher to the school office to arrange to go home.

Temporary Care

If parents are to be away from home for any length of time, it is wise to let the dean know and to advise the arrangements for your daughter’s temporary care. If for any reason your daghter is in temporary care please inform the school office in wiriting.

Transport

Buses from the Sumner area travel to and from the school each day and minibuses travel to Marian daily from the Kaiapoi-Rangiora area. The college is also on a public transport route to and from the city.

Medication

It is not the policy of the college to supply medication of any kind on demand. Parents with students who require constant medication should notify the college in writing of the problems. Students will be helped in an emergency situation.

Telephone / Cellphones

Students are not called to the telephone. In an emergency a message may be delivered to the school office and a girl may be given permission to ring home. Use of cellphones is not usually permitted during lessons.

Canteen

The school canteen is open at interval.
