SPECIAL NEEDS
Because of Marian College’s size, students with special needs are catered for. The college’s aim is to help all students feel successful and motivated. Special needs students’ learning is enhanced by providing individual programmes for those students whose needs are insufficiently met by the national curriculum.
Learning support
All students are screened at year 9 and special learning difficulties are identified. Parents are contacted regularly for those students identified as requiring help.
Students with specific disabilities have an individual educational programme (I.E.P.) arranged in consultation with the student, her parents, teachers and the dean.
Additional support is given to all students requiring help with their studies. Emphasis is on the development of independent learning skills, thinking skills and interpersonal communication skills.
